My dear family,
I hope you and your family are well.
Recently I watched a very shocking news report on alJazeerah about the smoking problem in Indonesia.

I will quickly give you some statistics:
- 400,000 Indonesians die beause of smoking.
- 25,000 of them are passive smokers (meaning they inhale the smoke because they are around family or friends who smoke). So these people are innocent.
- This means that 1095 Indonesians die everyday. 45 die every hour! Because of smoking.
The amazing thing is that many Indonesian Muslims still think it is not haram! Isn't the statistics enough to tell you that smoking is evil? Even the kuffaar say it is a very bad thing and they are fighting against it. Are we not going to wake up and stop following our desires?
One women said in the video. "My husband didn't die due to smoking, but before he died he had a regular bad cough."
Subhanallah!
Have you not heard the following verses and hadiths?
"Dan janganlah kamu membunuh dirimu; sesungguhnya Allah adalah Maha Penyayang kepadamu."
"And do not kill yourselves; indeed, Allah is ever Merciful to you." [an-Nisaa 4:29]
"dan janganlah kamu menjatuhkan dirimu sendiri ke dalam kebinasaan..."
"And do not be cast into ruin by your own hands.... [alBaqarah 2:195]
"...dan menghalalkan bagi mereka segala yang baik dan mengharamkan bagi mereka segala yang buruk..."
“he allows them as lawful At Tayyibaat (i.e. all good and lawful as regards things, deeds, beliefs, persons and foods), and prohibits them as unlawful Al Khabaa’ith (i.e. all evil and unlawful as regards things, deeds, beliefs, persons and foods) [al-A’raaf 7:157]
The Messenger (sallallahu alayhi wassalam) said: "Do not harm yourself or others.'' (Reported by Ahmad and Ibn Majah.)
The whole world, Muslim and non Muslim, knows that smoking is dirty, disgusting, evil and harmful. Isn't this al-khabaa'ith?
May Allah keep us away from such disgusting actions and keep us away from such gatherings. Ameen.
